Right Side: TM-60 miked at the center of the cone, one inch from the grill cloth, with a Rode NT-1 large diaphragm condenser microphone.
Left Side: SansAmp amp simulator direct out
All guitars recorded using only unmodified presets from the owner's manual, with both the direct out and a Shure SM-57* microphone right in front of the speaker's cone, at about one inch from the grill cloth. The two signals went on different tracks, and (in most cases) where panned opposite during mix down, with the direct signal more towards the left, and the miked signal more towards the right.
ABSOLUTELY no outboard EQ has been added during tracking or mix down. * A condenser microphone would have done a better job at reproducing the true sound, and all the nuances of the amp, but the SM-57 has been chosen due to the fact that about 80% of all guitar amps ever recorded have been recorded using that particular microphone. Incidentally, pretty much every guitar player knows its sound very well, making it a very good point of reference, as well as an excellent choice for "real life" comparisons. However, a condenser microphone was used for the A/B comparison sample, to demonstrate how similar the sound of the amp in a room and the sound of the SansAmp direct out are.
Bass parts recorded direct with a Yamaha BBG5S bass, trough a SansAmp PSA-1 pre-amp, using variations of the SVT Preset. All basses have been moderately compressed during tracking, using a FMR Audio RNC1773 compressor.
All tracks written, produced and mixed by Fred St-Gelais, at "Studio La Chambre", Quebec, Canada.
Guitars, basses, drums, loops and programming by Fred St-Gelais
Additional Drum loops and percussions by Mike Letricits.
